Text: Mark 1:16-20

Today we look at the calling of the disciples. Jesus told these men to effectively drop what they knew to do something else they knew nothing about.

I. Jesus Plan - to follow him

        - what does it mean to be a follower of Christ? To follow means to come after or pursue.

     a) Recognition - followers are on the narrow road

     b) submission - followers don't get ahead

     c) sacrifice - willingness to give up comforts

     d) teachable - followers look to the master

     e) trusting - the master always knows best

     f) suffering - willingness to lose my life for Jesus

II. Fishing

     a) obedience - fishing is not optional

     b) compassion - how do we see the world?

     c) knowledge - message is the same while the audience varies

     d) work - no room for laziness

     e) persistence - often the results are slow

     f) patience - plant, water, pray, leave the results to God
