Listen as Bob Flanders and Andrew McKumbu talk about the mighty work God is performing in the nation of Kenya. This was recorded during the AM Worship service at SRCC.

SPEAR International Ministry Partners Andrew Mukumbu and his wife Agnes are serving the lord in the city of Ruiru, Kenya.  Many of the 700,000 residents survive on less than $1 (US) a day. The  Mukumbu's moved to Ruiru in 1999 to plant a church.  It was at this time that Andrew was shocked to see how many orphans live in Ruiru so he began to take in some of the orphans and today he has an orphanage with 47 children.  He also has established a school for grades K-8 that has over 320 students.  The students include not only the orphans from the Mukumbu's orphanage but also many other orphans from the area and other school aged children who are too poor to even attend public school.

Text: 1 Thessalonians 2

Patrick Cross and his wife Tracy (Biblical Ministries Worldwide) have spent the last ten years serving as missionaries in Ireland (link). They have returned to the United States and are joining Rob and Joanne Brannon (Rocky Mountain Bible Church) to help with their work among the Mormons in Utah.

Outline: In the second chapter of 1 Thessalonians we see that the Apostle Paul wanted to be both biblical and effective. To do this we need to:
1) Have a deep conviction about the word of God.
2) We need to have confidence and be bold.
3) We must have a heart of compassion.

Text: Psalm 67:1-2

How do we commit to missions when we feel as though we are already maxed out? There is an answer found in Psalm 67.  Listen as Dr. Daniel P. Wicher, Jr. President of C.A.M. International brings us the second message from our 2009 Mission's Conference.

Outline:
God wants us to leverage what he has given us.  (The example of the talents.) There are the faithful and the unfaithful.

1) Time - get involved with your missionaries by praying for them and encouraging them.

2) Talents - Using your abilities, short term mission trips to multi-week and multi-month trips.

3) Treasure - God gives to us not for us to increase our standard of living but so we can increase our standard of giving.

Text: Jonah 1:4-10

Missions Conference 2008

Christian Bastke from International Christian Leader Training brings us a message on missions. What does God do when we do the opposite of what he asks?

* God acts with great power when his will is opposed.
* God's disiplenary action.
* God is determined to keep us from ruining ourselves to a point beyond restoration.
* It is for our growth & grace in Christ (Phil. 1:6)
* No ordinary storm - Jonah sleeps while others prayed for salvation.
* Are we annoyed by the lost?
* How can we ignore the challenge and not be willing to share the Good News?

Text: Jonah 1:1-3

Missions Conference 2008

Christian Bastke from International Christian Leader Training brings us a message on God speaking to Christians and our response to God.

* God speaks to individuals.
* When God speaks we need to listen.
* A prophet (to bubble up) is one who speaks for another.
* God has the right to speak and he expects us to act at any time.
* Our objective should be to do what God whats us to do.
* we are to share the Gospel with others just as Jonah was enlisted to share the word
* Those who do not submit to the will of God are guilty of sin (wickedness of man).
* Missionaries are sent by God to explain his grace and mercy.
* How did Jonah respond (vs.3)?
* Consequences of disobeying God
* When you run from God you must pay your own fare.
* Many Christians today are "on strike" are you?

Bob is currently serving as Assistant to the General Director for Ministry Strategy and Missionary Development at World Reach.  Bob and his wife Suzi's  primary focus will be providing pastoral care and support to World Reach missionaries.  They travel to each of the fields to become acquainted with each of the missionaries and the various challenges and stresses related to their ministry.  In addition to providing spiritual support to the missionaries and their families, they seek to assist each missionary with planning and goal setting for a more effective ministry.  While on the fields they are involved in teaching at World Reach mobile Bible Institutes and speaking in local churches.   Finally, they meet with each missionary on furlough and provide debriefing, counsel,  encouragement, and assistance.
