Text: Hebrews 3:1-19 As Christians are we to be involved in each others lives? Yes we are; as we learn from our study in the book of Hebrews. In Chapter 3 we see both instruction and warning. In vs. 13 we see the word "exhort" 1) Exhortation is a command not a suggestion - to encourage means to "draw along side". Encouragement is commanded 55 times in the New Testament. 2) The command comes with a sense of urgency. - notice the use of the word "today" in chapters 3 and 4. 3) There is purpose for encouragement. A) the author is removed from the equation. B) The author speaks of the serious nature of this. - Hardened condition "dry and stiff" C) The power of sin. (see Hebrews 12:1) Why should we encourage? 1) It is commanded 2) We never know who is on the receiving end. Never discount what impact you might have on others. |
