Text: Matthew 10:32-33

Just what does it mean to "confess"?  The reality of one's conversion is something that you cannot afford to be wrong about because to be wrong is to be condemned to an eternity apart from God in Hell.

“Confession has reference to the specific statement of faith that Jesus Christ is the only Savior and Lord!?  -    S. Lewis Johnson

Luther said that “confession is the principle work of faith.?

Calvin added that “no one can believe with the heart without confessing with the mouth.  It is a natural consequence of faith.?

I. Confession

     A. Definition-to say the same and so as to agree in one’s statement.

     B. Key-Confession represents the open expression of one’s allegiance to a proposition or a person.

II.  Occurrence

     A.  “Fight the good fight of faith; take hold of the eternal life to which you were called, and you made the good  confession in the presence of many witnesses.?  -  I Timothy 6:12

    C.  “Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.? - Hebrews 4:14

    D.  “Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.? - Hebrews 10:23

III.  Assurance

“...that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.?   - Romans 10:9-10
