Text: Mark 1:16-20 Today we look at the calling of the disciples. Jesus told these men to effectively drop what they knew to do something else they knew nothing about. I. Jesus Plan - to follow him - what does it mean to be a follower of Christ? To follow means to come after or pursue. a) Recognition - followers are on the narrow road b) submission - followers don't get ahead c) sacrifice - willingness to give up comforts d) teachable - followers look to the master e) trusting - the master always knows best f) suffering - willingness to lose my life for Jesus
II. Fishing a) obedience - fishing is not optional b) compassion - how do we see the world? c) knowledge - message is the same while the audience varies d) work - no room for laziness e) persistence - often the results are slow f) patience - plant, water, pray, leave the results to God |

The Setting - the wilderness of Judea - Jesus was with the wild beasts for 40 days and 40 nights II. The Enemy - The devil - Satan - Our Adversary - he is relentless III. The Temptations a) 1st was that Jesus would distrust the father's care. b) 2nd was to question the Father's will. c) 3rd was to fully reject the will of the Father for the Son * What will help us face the darts that Satan throws at us? a) Take in the word of God regularly b) Pray c) Accountability
