Text: I Thessalonians 1:2-3; 9-10 In part 4 of the series "Marks of a Healthy Church" we see that the early Christians were living in hope. Today people put their hope in the almighty dollar not the Lord Almighty. Hope is built on: 1) Jesus Christ is alive 1 Cor.15:12-19 2) Jesus is coming again. Does the church today live expecting the return of Christ? He has rescued us from Hell and from the tribulation: 1) I Thessalonians 5:1-10 "God did not appoint us for wrath" 2) It is this hope that motivates us. It is the reason we should fish for men Production Note: There is a 13 second dropout near the beginning of the audio; please excuse this technical difficulty. |

Text: I Thessalonians 1:2-3 In part 3 of the series "Marks of a Healthy Church" we see that not only did the Christians leave their mark but they also fished for men. Four areas to be a fisher of men: 1) They had a balance of life. 2) They were committed to being heard (vs.8). The message was blasted out as a trumpet. 3) They trumpeted forth the word of the Lord. They turned to the to the sovereign from idols.(see also John 7:40-52 and 8:12-26) 4) They were making a difference. They were known everywhere. To point the way to truth we should: 1) Honesty - Tell the truth. 2) Urgency - We don't know when the Lord may return. 3) Pray. |

Text: I Thessalonians 1:2-3 As we continue looking at the marks of a healthy church we see in vs. 2 the term "labor of love". This labor of love by the church at Thessalonica was expressed toward other believers (verse 6). In verse 7 we see the word "example" - This word means to leave a visible impression. Who has left a mark on you? See also i Timothy 4:12- for the example of Timothy and how he was to be an example. Seven areas to be an example: 1) Mindset of serving. 2) Mindset of encouragement. Are you leaving a mark today?3) A devotion to one another. 4) The forgiving of one another (Ephesians 4:32). 5) To be committed to one another. 6) To admonish one another. (Galatians 6) 7) We comfort one another through trials and tribulations. (2 Cor 1:3-7) |

Text: Thessalonians 1 How is the church in the 21st Century different from the 1st Century church? Listen as Pastor Thad Blount first has a question and discussion session with the Springville Road congregation before teaching on the example of of the Church at Thessalonica. What are the keys to a healthy church? The first thing we see is that they put their faith into practice. (vs. 3) * Their work of faith is explained (vs. 9) Serve - one who is bound to another. * Their service was motivated by worship (vs. 4-5) (See also Mark 10:35-)* A life of continual service - no retirement. * A life of complete service - open to whatever God wants you to do. * A life of whole-hearted service - not half way. |
