Text: I Corinthians 11:3 and Genesis 2:4-24

Today's culture thinks of marriage in terms of popular television shows such as Everybody Loves Raymond and Desperate Housewives but these shows are not the model that we should be following. As Christians we are to base our marriages on scripture and not on the culture in which we live.

* Culture has redefined our marriages.
* There is now a try and see mentality.
* There is a me first mentality.
* There does not seem to be a distinct role for men and women today.

Men and women are equal in value yet different in roles.

* The head of man is Christ - (Romans 14:11 and Philippians 2:9-11) - when it comes to submission we usually think of wives submitting to the husbands but the truth is that men are to submit to Christ.
* The head of Christ is God - (John 4:34; John 5:19; John 6:38)
* The head of women is man
* We must embrace the gospel in order for marriage to work.

Text: 2 Corinthians 5:16 - 6:10

As Christians we constantly face the problem of losing our perspective on life.  One of the ways that we can help to maintain a proper Godly perspective is to remember that we are called to be ambassadors for Christ.  Listen as one of our church members, Robbie Roberts, speaks on this subject.

Outline:
1) What is an ambassador? - Greek word Presbus - or old man.  Ambassadors were usually older and wiser men who knew the King's positions very well. Ambassadors are sent out from their homeland to serve in a foreign land. Ambassadors are not important for who they are but for who they represent.

2) Who are Ambassadors for Christ?  As Christians we all are. (see verse 5:18) - "given us"

3) What is the Message? - The Ministry of reconciliation. (see verse 5:18-19) Reconciliation can be thought of as the theme of Christianity. Christians must be reconciled to God in order to be saved.  How is this possible?  (see verse 5:21)

4) For How Long is the Message of Reconciliation Available? - Now is the time, today is the day of salvation.

5) The Endurance of the Ambassador. (read verses 6:3-6) - Patience or endurance is the Greek word Hupomone. This word has 3 facets of meaning: a) to bear up under hard labor. b) To survive the shock of battle. c) To remain steadfast in the face of death.

Text: Colossians 3:17
What are you handing down to those in your family? There is nothing more important than to give them a Godly legacy. Listen as Pastor Thad continues this study on the family.

Review:
* Legacy - something passed down from one generation to another. Are you rooted in Christ? (see Col. 2:6-7)

* A Key Verse - Colossians 3:17 “Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.”
Word - meaning anything spoken; referring to the tongue. (see also James 3)
Deed  - meaning one’s actions or behavior.

* What a father or mother does in moderation; a child could completely embrace.

This Week:
* Issues That Cloud A Godly Legacy

    1) Materialism - the theory that physical well-being and worldly possessions constitute the greatest good and highest value in life.
    2) Busyness - one who is engaged in much activity; at times to the point of being distracted.
    3) Tolerance - leeway for variation from a certain standard.
    4) Feminism - the belief in the social, political, economic and religious equality of the sexes.
    5) Addictions - the condition of being habitually or compulsively occupied with or involved in something
    6) Career - an individual’s course or progress through life.  It is traditionally seen as a course of successive situations that make up a person’s work life

* A Godly Example - Mary - Luke 1

    1) She acknowledges He is worthy of glory and honor.
    2) She acknowledges that He is Savior.
    3) She acknowledges His greatness.
    4) She acknowledges His sovereignty.

Is There a Message in the Stars?
This is special bonus class from our study of the book of Romans.  In Romans chapter 10:18 "But I say, have they not heard? Yes indeed: "Their sound has gone out to all the earth, And their words to the ends of the world."  We see that Paul quotes from Psalms 19:4 psalm of David about the heavens.  Listen as Elder Steve Bartlett discusses the subject of the possibility of God placing a message in the stars.

The Slide Show that Steve used in class may be downloaded to follow along as you listen. You must have a pdf reader on your computer to see the slides.

We hope you have enjoyed this series and our thanks go out to Steve Bartlet for all the time he devoted in the teaching of this class and for allowing us to record the lessons and make them available on our website.

We hope to have a similar study available beginning in August 2008 as we look at the book of Revelation.
