Hebrews 7:1-3 Key Word: Superior Main Idea: The Priesthood of Jesus Christ is greater than that of Aaron because “the order of Melchizedek” is superior to “the order of Levi.” I. Melchizedek’s Identity. A. not the preincarnate Christ. B. not an Angel. C. He was King of Righteousness. D. He was King of Salem - meaning King of Peace E. He was High Priest of El Elyon. 1. Melchizedek’s blessing of Abraham was the exercise of his priesthood. 2. Abraham’s paying tithes was the recognition of his priesthood. 3. According to Psalm 110:4, which is a prophetic passage the priesthood of Christ has no end. Interesting Observation: Melchizedek met Abraham with bread and wine. |

Text: Hebrews 6:12 1)Examples of Faith * The Author’s Challenge- Diligence * The Author’s Caution-Sluggish * The Author’s Concern-Imitators 2)Imitators of Faith *Definition-the word imitator describes one who follows. In this context the author is encouraging his readers to follow examples of faith as they pursue diligence. Patience in this context is the result of faith not separate from it and certainly anticipates inheriting the promises! 3)An Example of Faith-Abraham * Obedience-Genesis 12 describes the initial response of Abraham to God. * Hebrews 11:8- “By faith Abraham, when he was called, obeyed by going out to a place which he was to receive for an inheritance; and he went out, not knowing where he was going.” *Trust-Genesis 22 records the trust that Abraham had in His God. He trusted the Lord to provide. * Genesis 22- “Abraham said as he responded to his son Issac, “God will provide for Himself the lamb for the burnt offering.” 4) Considerations About Those We Follow: * Depth-what is the testimony concerning their vertical relationship? * Failure-what is their response to failure or failures in life? * Investment-are they reproducing themselves in the lives of others? * Perseverance-what is their response to difficult times or times of suffering in life? * Wisdom-does their decision making evidence faith resulting in patience? |
