Text: Hebrews 3:1

Why would the author of Hebrews call Jesus an Apostle? If you look throughout the bible you will find that this is the only time that this term is used with regard to Christ.  Interestingly there is no other mention of any others using the term apostle in the book of Hebrews.  Why is this?  Because of authority.  Jesus authority exceeded that of even Moses (for whom the recipients of the letter held up even higher than Abraham).  Jesus is the one with all (supreme) authority. The word apostle means: "one sent forth" of God.  This emphasizes mission.

Looking at Three significant points of encouragement:

1) The Purpose - to encourage us to focus on the mission that he has given us today.  (see Luke 4:15-19)

2) The Completion - of his mission encourages us to finish the course. (see John 17:1-4)

3) The Focus - of the other apostles can encourage us to give him all the glory. (see Acts 3:11-16 and Acts 4:5-12) here we see that they stayed on message and while this is hard to do we need to do the same today.
