Text: 2 Timothy 3:1-2, Hebrews 13:1-5 In the second part of Understanding the Times we look at The Love of Money. Man is consumed with various aspects of money, from making it, to saving it, to spending it, and having too little of it. The Bible speaks on the subject of money over 1600 times making it one of the most talked about subjects in the scriptures. * A lover of money means to be a friend of silver/greedy for gain. Examples of Judas, Ananias and Sapphira. I. The Warning: - Exodus 5:10 - he who loves money will never be satisfied with money. II. The Wisdom:- Mark 7:21 - for out of the heart of men... deeds of coveting/greed. - Luke 16:13-15 - You cannot love God and riches. The old man is dead to greed and greed amounts to idolatry. - 1 Timothy 6:10 - We need to remember that God owns it all. Hebrews 13:1-5 - without covetousness, be content 1) Content means to be enough, sufficient, satisfied. 2) Content is in the present tense. It is a continual attitude of satisfaction - example of Paul in Philippians 4 "I have learned to be content in whatever state that I am." 3) To be content is avalible through the promises of God - "I will never leave you nor forsake you" We can confidently say that "the Lord is my helper, I will not fear for what can man do to me?" Example of David vs. Goliath.
